Finding a German course

You want to learn German. Here you find out where to find a course in Luzern and what it costs.

German helps you in daily life, at work and with the authorities. In Kanton Luzern there are many German courses. There are courses for all levels, from A1 to C2.

Which level do you need?

  • A1 and A2: You understand simple sentences from daily life.
  • B1 and B2: You already speak and write quite well.
  • For vocational training you usually need B1 or B2.

Where do you find a course?

Kanton Luzern has a list of courses on the internet: gruezi.lu.ch/Sprachkurse. There you see courses near you. You also see if there is childcare.

SmartTalk in Luzern offers German courses for all levels. In this app you find the current courses under "Find a German course". FABIA (competence centre for migration) and your municipality advise you for free.

What does a course cost?

Usually you pay for the course yourself. The canton and some municipalities pay part of some courses. These courses are cheaper.

Compare the price per lesson. This way you see which course is cheap.

Placement

Before the course you often do a short test (placement, Einstufung). This way you get into the right group. Ask the provider about it.

  1. Open the course list: gruezi.lu.ch/Sprachkurse.
  2. Choose 2 to 3 courses near you.
  3. Ask the provider about price, placement and childcare.
  4. You are unsure? Go to FABIA. The counselling is free.
