Registering with the municipality
After moving, you register with your municipality. Here you see which documents you need.
You are moving to a new municipality? Then you register there. The office is often called residents' services (Einwohnerdienste, Einwohnerkontrolle).
When?
You have 14 days. That is what the city of Luzern says. Ask your municipality about the deadline.
You need these documents
Example city of Luzern:
- Passport or ID
- Foreign national permit (Ausländerausweis, Aufenthaltsbewilligung), if you have one
- Rental contract or housing certificate (Wohnungsausweis)
- Health insurance card or policy (proof of insurance) for everyone in the family
Other municipalities ask for similar documents. Ask beforehand.
This is how it works in the city of Luzern
