Courses for adults in reading, writing, arithmetic and computers. Many are free or cheap. Here you find them.

Many adults would like to read, write or do arithmetic better. Or they would like to use computers and mobile phones better. This is called basic skills (Grundkompetenzen, basic abilities for daily life).

There are courses for this in Kanton Luzern. The canton supports these courses.

Which courses are there?

  • Reading and writing in German.
  • Arithmetic in daily life, for example with money and prices.
  • Computers, mobile phones and internet.

SmartTalk in Luzern offers courses in reading, writing, maths and computer skills. The canton pays for many of them with a voucher. You see the current courses in this app under "Find a German course".

What do the courses cost?

Some courses are free. For other courses there is an education voucher (Bildungsgutschein) of CHF 500. More about this in the entry «Using the education voucher of Kanton Luzern».

Counselling

The LernLounge of Caritas and SAH advises you for free. It exists in Luzern and in Sursee. The BIZ Luzern (career information centre, Berufsinformationszentrum) at Obergrundstrasse 51 also helps you.
