Save these numbers in your phone: 144 ambulance, 117 police, 118 fire brigade. All free, day and night.

The most important numbers

• 144 Ambulance. In case of danger to life, accident, serious illness.
• 117 Police. In case of violence, burglary, danger.
• 118 Fire brigade. In case of fire, smoke, gas.
• 112 European emergency number. Works with every mobile phone in all of Europe. It connects you to the police.
• 145 Tox Info: poisoning. For example if a child has eaten something poisonous.
• 1414 Rega (rescue by helicopter). In the mountains or when no car can get there.

All numbers are free. They work day and night.

Talking instead of an emergency

• 143 Die Dargebotene Hand. For adults with worries. Free, anonymous, always.
• 147 Pro Juventute. For children and young people. Free, anonymous, always.
• 142 Victim support (Opferhilfe). If someone has done violence to you. Free and confidential.

Ill, but no danger to life

In Kanton Luzern the health hotline (Gesundheitsleitstelle) helps: 0800 041 041. Free, day and night. It tells you if you need to see a doctor.

What do I say on the phone?

Stay calm. Say three things:

1. Who are you? Your name and your phone number.
2. Where are you? Address, place, floor. Or what you see.
3. What happened? How many people? Is someone unconscious?

Speak slowly. You may try English or another language. Do not hang up. The control centre asks you questions and helps you.

What you can do now

1. Save 144, 117, 118 and 0800 041 041 in your phone.
2. Learn the three questions: Who? Where? What?
3. Write your address on a note. Hang it next to the door.
4. Show the numbers to your children.
