Permit N, F or S: Who is responsible for me?

In Kanton Luzern the Dienststelle Asyl- und Flüchtlingswesen (DAF) is responsible for you. Here you find out what it does and how to reach it.

What do N, F and S mean?

  • N: You have applied for asylum. The procedure is ongoing.
  • F: Temporarily admitted. You may stay for the time being.
  • S: Protection status. Temporary protection, for example for people from Ukraine.
  • B as a refugee: Your asylum application was accepted.

The DAF is responsible

In Kanton Luzern the Dienststelle Asyl- und Flüchtlingswesen (DAF, office for asylum and refugee matters) is responsible. It takes care of housing, support, social assistance and integration. This applies to N, F, S and to recognised refugees with B.

The DAF is responsible until you have been in Switzerland for 10 years. After that your municipality is responsible. If your status changes, the municipality can become responsible earlier.

Your social worker (Sozialberaterin, Sozialberater) is your contact person. For questions about money, housing, German courses or work: ask there first.

You do not know your social worker? Call the DAF. Say your name and your permit.

Place of residence

With permit N or F you may not choose your place of residence freely. The DAF assigns you accommodation. Do you want to move? Talk to the DAF first.

Legal questions about the asylum procedure? Caritas has a legal counselling centre in Luzern. Ask there about the costs of the counselling.

Recognised refugees with permit B can also go to FABIA. FABIA advises for free on residence and integration.
